    What is Microneedling?

Microneedling (collagen induction therapy) uses an FDA-cleared SkinPen device to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering your body's natural wound healing response to produce new collagen and elastin. This medical-grade treatment dramatically improves acne scars, fine lines, large pores, uneven skin texture, and hyperpigmentation. At The Injector Collective, our Master Esthetician Lauren Bowen performs microneedling with precision and care, often combining it with PRP/PRF for enhanced results.

    How Microneedling Works

The SkinPen device contains a cluster of fine, sterile needles that oscillate rapidly to create thousands of micro-channels in the skin's surface. This controlled injury triggers a three-phase healing cascade: inflammation (clotting and immune response), proliferation (new collagen and elastin formation), and remodeling (new tissue matures and strengthens). The result is smoother, firmer, more even-toned skin that continues to improve for months after treatment.

    Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling

How many microneedling sessions do I need?

For general skin improvement and anti-aging, we recommend 3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. For acne scarring, 4-6 sessions may be needed. Maintenance treatments every 3-6 months help sustain results.

    Does microneedling hurt?

We apply topical numbing cream for 20-30 minutes before treatment, which significantly reduces discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild vibration or sandpaper-like feeling. The neck and forehead tend to be more sensitive than the cheeks.

What is the downtime for microneedling?

Expect redness similar to a sunburn for 24-48 hours. Some patients experience mild swelling and skin flaking for 2-3 days. Most people return to normal activities the next day and can apply mineral makeup after 24 hours. Full healing takes about 5-7 days.

Can I combine microneedling with PRP?

Yes — combining microneedling with PRP or PRF (sometimes called a 'vampire facial') is one of the most effective treatments available. The micro-channels created by the needles allow growth factors to penetrate deeper, significantly enhancing collagen stimulation and results.

Is microneedling safe for dark skin?

Yes — unlike some laser treatments that can cause hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones, microneedling is safe for all skin types (Fitzpatrick types I-VI). It's one of the best scar and texture treatments available for patients with melanin-rich skin.
